Lots of doodles and ideas exploded last week at Doodlefest (July). Over 60 letter doodles have been collected and in the next few days will be compiled into a free font for all those who attended.
What is Doodlefest? It is a fun, free creative meet-up offered in San Francisco by Alphabetic Order and PSY/OPS several times a year. Check it out:
Tarocco Superset Sale now through July 14th for only $48 (60% off).
Tarocco is a collection of fourteen sophisticated and very readable fonts by Stefan Hattenbach.
The Tarocco Superset includes a complete set of regular, italic, bold and bold italic as well as smallcaps with both Lining and Old Style numerals. Tarroco Superset also comes with a beautiful set of classical ornaments featuring calligraphic swashes and ornate text embellishments.
Check it out, Catacumba Pro is on sale for the next few days for $49 (60% off).
Catacumba is a six-weight typeface inspired by the painted inscriptions of the Igreja de São Francisco church’s catacombs in Porto, Portugal. The forms are clearly influenced by Victorian style, with an unmistakable French heritage, and yet they somehow convey a decidedly Portuguese sensibility.
Catacumba’s centerpieces are its two titling styles: the exuberant Excelsa, and the didonesque Moderata. From these two decoratives, four new cuts are derived. These, the Text fonts, are tamer and more understated, but maintain the same artisanal grounding and DNA as the display fonts. Each Catacumba font includes an expanded selection of OpenType ranges and features, allowing for extensive use within the Latin range.
Vidange Pro is on sale this week. Buy 8 fonts for only $49 (60% off).
For Vidange, artist Jack Usine set out to create a “kind of unclassifiable bastard typeface, something between text and display… geometry and humanism… with a strong presence of French vernacular sign lettering.” Vidange’s inspirations are very much in the vein of amateur sign lettering, with the the improbable ‘factory-roof’ M serving as a prime example.
As is often the case with so-called naïve art, Vidange is full of lively elements that defy the status quo. But even with these non-standard constructions, the forms remain recognizable and exude a dignity all their own.
The Vidange Pro Sale ends on June 16th.
Buy Alphaluxe today for only $14 (60% off).
A vertical script packing a velvet punch! Alphaluxe compels attention like the best of the futuristic Moderne scripts from the 1930–50s with none of the bulk. The shapes are strong, their rendering light.
The design was hand drawn by Wesley Poole in 2006, and meticulously reinterpreted as a digital typeface by PSY/OPS designers Jana Flynn and RXC. The font contains a selection of prêt-à-porte alternates in option/alt keystrokes.
The Alphaluxe Sale ends on June 12th.
We’ve made the jump to a new website / server / CMS / host this week — oh yeah, and we’ve rebranded. It’s all part of a phased PSY/OPS relaunch. We’ll be adding new content in layers and announcing new typefaces over the coming weeks and months. Stay tuned for some pretty great stuff!
